Rain and snow
Half of the annual rainfall comes in the winter months, while summers are dry. About half the days in December and January are rainy. Snow is very rare in İzmir Province, although the surrounding mountains are covered in snow during the winter months.
Plant life
In Selçuk, which has a Mediterranean climate, the plains are covered with olive groves, orchards and fields; peaches, tangerines, figs and grapes are the region’s signature produce. The slopes of the surrounding mountains are clad in maquis shrubland and Turkish red pine forests, while reed beds line the wetlands on the Pamucak coast, where the Küçük Menderes River meets the sea.
