The rich museum of a magnificent city
The museum was first established as a depot in 1929. It displays works from the Mycenaean, Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Turkish periods, arranged by theme and all recovered in excavations at Ephesus and the surrounding area. The museum’s collections hold some 60,000 artifacts. The statues of Ephesian Artemis, the sacred goddess of the ancient city of Ephesus, are among the museum’s most important must-see works.
