CAFE CARPOUZA THE FIRST HOTEL IN THE REGION

As you step out of the Selçuk train station, you will see a magnificently lush garden of Cafe Carpouza. Originally this building was the first hotel in Selçuk, owned by the same owners of one of the most famous hotels of İzmir, Grand Hotel Huck.

The decision of opening a hotel in Selçuk was based on the fact that with the İzmir Aydın Railroad functioning, the number of tourists visiting Ephesus had multiplied. The hotel was initially named Grand Huck-Ephese which has also came to be known as the Ayasuluk Hotel. Nowadays it is a lovely cafe named Carpouza.

Originally the building had two storeys however, during the Turkish Greek War in 1922, the upper floor was burnt down completely. Today, the cafe is run by the municipality and it is a favorite spot for most Selçuk families as well as visitors to spend leisurely time in the warm days of spring and summer.
